Heat Wave Pushes Fresh Food Bills Up: Japan’s worst heat wave on record has pushed up fresh food bills in August, leading to higher consumer prices in Tokyo, the government said. Tokyo consumer prices, a key barometer of inflation, fell 0.2% in August from a year earlier, but inched up by 0.4% from July, the Management and Coordination Agency said. “The heat wave and (resultant) water shortage pushed up fresh fish, vegetable and fruit prices in August from a month earlier,” an agency official said.
