Subway Tunneling

Share

* Regarding the collapse of Hollywood Boulevard (Aug. 23): Why are we building a subway system in Los Angeles? We have unstable ground and pockets of natural gas. And now it seems we have underground water, which is damaging the tunnels and areas aboveground. Who would want to ride on a subway built in this kind of environment?

As we all know, the people who live in Los Angeles are automobile people. For this reason we have an excellent system of roads and freeways.

Why don’t we use what we have, the roads and freeways, for mass transit? We would just need new equipment, and we would not have to tear up our city. And we would save lots of money. I do not believe we will get Angelenos to use mass transit unless it is surface transportation.
