LOS ANGELES : Rap Star Gets 5 Months in Drunk Driving Case

Rap star Dr. Dre was sentenced Tuesday in Los Angeles Municipal Court to five months in jail after pleading no contest to drunk driving charges.

The 28-year-old Grammy-winning rapper, whose real name is Andre Young, will enter jail on Jan. 10 under a work furlough arrangement allowing him to leave his cell on a daily basis to continue producing records in his home studio in Calabasas.

Police arrested Young on Jan. 10 after he failed a sobriety test after an earlymorning high-speed chase through Beverly Hills and Westwood. In addition to the five-month jail term, West Los Angeles Municipal Judge Paula Adela Mabrey also ordered the entertainer to pay a $1,053 fine and attend an alcohol education program.

The judge ruled that Young had violated the terms of a three-year probated sentence stemming from a 1992 battery conviction in which he allegedly punched a Woodland Hills man in the face, breaking his jaw.
