For Women of Color

The “Beauty Makeover Secrets for Asian and Hispanic Coloring Workshop” at Rancho Santiago Community College in Santa Ana recently attracted a dozen women.

Taught by Betty Nethery, a color and image consultant with Uniquely You in Lake Forest, the workshop helped women of color identify the uniqueness of their skin tones and facial features. Nethery, a former model and makeup artist, told participants to take an honest look at their appearance and invest time to look their best.

Other points made during the 3 1/2-hour program were:

* Experiment with custom-mixed foundations because skin with golden, yellow, gray or green undertones is difficult to match with off-the-shelf foundations.

* Use eye makeup to contour a flat eyelid shape if you want the illusion of a fuller lid, and use blush and foundation to create the look of high cheekbones, if so desired.

* Dark eyes and dark hair look best with makeup in bright tones such as pinks, fuchsias, reds and burgundies. Avoid warm, dull or earth tones.

Another workshop is scheduled for Sept. 29 at Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa. The cost is $29. Call (714) 432-5880 for information.
