More than $10,000 was raised for the city’s cultural arts programs at the “Brea Fest: A Taste of the Arts” celebration. This annual event, which drew more than 4,000 people, was held Aug. 26 at the Brea Civic & Cultural Center.

“This was our most successful year” in terms of both revenue and talent, festival manager Kathie DeRobbio said.

Funds were generated from food-tasting booths operated by 29 area restaurants and food distributors who donated their products and services. Some of the performers donated their time, and others were sponsored by local businesses. There were also 150 volunteers working at the event.

Festival proceeds will support cultural activities sponsored by the city, including art exhibits at the Brea Gallery, performances at the Curtis Theatre, and seasonal programs such as concerts in the park and the “Family Fridays” movie series.

The event is also designed to help make the community aware of cultural opportunities in Brea.

This year’s festival featured musical and dance performances on three outdoor stages. There were also presentations by the Brea Civic Light Opera and the Brea Youth Theatre, children’s activities, art demonstrations and an exhibit of works created by physically and developmentally impaired artists.
