Putting Their Stamp on an Unforgettable Moment in Compton

Share

Nat King Cole’s daughter Casey Cole, above, unveils a stamp honoring her father Friday at Compton College. The city had proclaimed it Nat King Cole/Ethel Waters Day. The ceremony, which included Roger Hamilton Spotts, right, playing music Cole made famous, was part of a nationwide monthlong salute to these artists, plus Ethel Merman, Bing Crosby and Al Jolson. The five singers are commemorated in the U.S. Postal Service’s Legends of American Music series.
