Grandparents Day--Children 12 and under admitted free when accompanied by a grandparent

“Cowboy Boots and Country Roots” is the theme of this year’s Antelope Valley Fair and Alfalfa Festival at the Antelope Valley Fairgrounds, 155 E. Ave. I, Lancaster. Hours are noon to midnight today and noon to 10 p.m. Monday, which is closing day. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for children ages 6 to 12 and and free for children under 6. 8 a.m.: Open registered sheep show (wool breeds)

noon: John Timothy (bicycling piano player), team roping

12:30 p.m.: BC characters at fairgrounds

1 p.m.: Stu Mulligan, Karter the Ventriloquist, silversmithing, pig races

1:30 p.m.: Catch It Quick

2 p.m.: Bubblegum blowing contest, Del Mar thoroughbred racing, Resurrection Ministries

2:30 p.m.: Scarecrow, Balloonacy

3 p.m.: 3 o’clock Fun, Karter the Ventriloquist, gem and wire wrap, children’s choir, racing special: $250,000 Del Mar handicap

3:30 p.m.: Catch It Quick, pig races

4 p.m.: Monster truck show (tickets $10 and $8), Stu Mulligan, Satin & Spurs, Universal Truth Choir, Mechanical Man, Los Alamitos quarter horse racing
