Los Angeles County homicide detectives are investigating the death of an elderly Lake Los Angeles woman whose charred body was found in the debris of a garage fire, authorities said.

Firefighters found the body of the unidentified 87-year-old woman after they extinguished the blaze in the 10300 block of Avenue R-14, near 105th Street East, said Diana Aronson, a dispatcher for the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies said the woman may have lived at the house with her son. Homicide and arson investigators were sent to the house late Sunday, said Deputy Rich Erickson.
