Contamination Fight Targets Storm Drains

Share

An effort to prevent Thousand Oaks residents from dumping trash and hazardous materials into storm drains will begin this month, city officials said.

A series of activities that officials say is intended to maintain a clean ocean and keep area lakes and creeks free from contamination will begin once enough volunteers have come forward to help the program.

The first project will entail stenciling messages warning “Don’t Dump, Drains to Lake” onto curbs above storm drains.

The messages will help remind people that when they pour something down the drain, it does not simply disappear, said Mohammad Fatemi, the program organizer.

“Community involvement in this important program will benefit everyone by helping to maintain a clean environment,” he said. For more information, call Fatemi in City Hall at 497-8611.
