PRO FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : RAMS : Kinchen Released; Henley to Sign

The Rams released wide receiver Todd Kinchen to make room for cornerback Darryl Henley on the roster.

Henley reported to Rams Park, met with Coach Chuck Knox, but left without signing a contract.

“I expect it to be done,” said John Shaw, Ram president. “We’re just waiting for some documents detailing the financial terms (of Henley’s $2-million bail).”

The Rams were told they would have those documents at noon Tuesday, but Henley’s agent, Marvin Demoff, had not delivered the paper work by the end of the business day. The team would like to have Henley signed today to practice in preparation for Sunday’s game against the Falcons at Atlanta.

Henley has been indicted for cocaine possession and distribution and awaits a January trial. However, he has received permission from the NFL to play, and a federal judge ruled he can travel with the team if he, or a responsible third party, secures a $2-million bond.

Kinchen, the team’s No. 3 draft pick in 1992, has undergone surgery on both knees in the last year and has been battling back from a hamstring injury.

Team trainers cleared him to start practicing today, but his $375,000 salary became a tradeoff for the $350,000 the Rams are expected to pay Henley.

“We had a numbers situation,” Knox said. “While we think he’s an outstanding talent, we had a hard time keeping him on the field.”
