PRO FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : RAMS : Henley Contract Not Quite Done

Share

Cornerback Darryl Henley reported to Rams Park on Tuesday, met with Coach Chuck Knox, but left without signing a contract.

“I expect it to be done,” said John Shaw, Ram president. “We’re just waiting for some documents detailing the financial terms (of Henley’s $2 million bail).”

The Rams were told they would have those documents at noon Tuesday, but Henley’s agent, Marvin Demoff, had not delivered the completed paperwork by the end of the business day.

The team would like to have Henley signed today so he can practice in preparation for Sunday’s game in Atlanta.

Henley has been indicted for cocaine possession and distribution and awaits a January trial. However, he has received permission from the NFL to play, and a federal judge ruled he may travel with the team if he, or a responsible third party, secures a $2 million bond.

Ram officials expressed no alarm at Tuesday’s delay in getting Henley’s signature on a contract. They said they were only being cautious in awaiting the arrival of pertinent documents that will allow him to travel.

Knox, who has had a history of quietly helping various charitable efforts, has told team officials to take $2,000 raised in fines from players weighing in overweight, and direct it toward the feeding of the hungry in Rwanda.
