* Christ the Shepherd Evangelical Lutheran Church in Altadena will celebrate the fifth anniversary of joining the Reconciled in Christ programs of Lutherans Concerned at a 10:30 a.m. Eucharist on Sept. 18. The organization supports full acceptance and participation of gay men and lesbians in the church. * Catholic Big Brothers is seeking volunteer men of all faiths throughout Los Angeles County to serve as role models to boys 7 to 14 who come from single-parent families and various religious backgrounds. Volunteers are screened and must commit at least three hours a week to a youngster. The organization also operates the largest program of its kind in the nation for hearing-impaired boys and girls ages 6 to 18. Catholic Big Brothers is a United Way agency affiliated with Big Brothers/Big Sisters of America, with offices throughout Southern California.
