BRIDGING THE GAP: The Bridge benefit, the eighth annual affair organized by Young to support the school for physically challenged and severely speech-impaired children, will also feature Tom Petty, Mazzy Star and the Indigo Girls.

But the presence of Young and Pearl Jam gives it extra significance since Young has said he won’t tour this year due to the intensely personal nature of his new “Sleeps With Angels” album, and Pearl Jam has been not scheduled a tour because of its feud with Ticketmaster over surcharges.

Tickets for the show go on sale today through the Bay Area-based BASS firm, which does add a surcharge to the $25 tickets (a $3.65 or $3.75 surcharge if bought at BASS outlets, a $4.50 surcharge for phone orders). But Sherry Wasserman, vice president of promoter Bill Graham Presents, which is producing the concert, says the tickets are available at face value at the box office. Southern Californians who want tickets can order them through BASS’ phone service at (510) 762-2277.
