Ernest M. Lever; Head of Law Firm, Philanthropist

Ernest M. Lever, an accountant, attorney and founder of the California society whose members embrace both those disciplines, has died while on vacation in his native England.

Lever, of Pacific Palisades, was 75 when he died Sept. 2 of heart failure in York, England. He had been born in Manchester.

Lever graduated with a degree in economics from London University, moved to California in 1939 and graduated from UCLA and Southwestern Law School. He had headed his Beverly Hills law firm since 1953.

He was active in many Southern California organizations, among them the Natural History Museum, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Natural History Museum’s Gem and Mineral Council and many more.

Survivors include his wife, Rebecca, three sons and a granddaughter. A memorial service is scheduled today at 1:30 p.m. at University Synagogue in West Los Angeles.
