Preview ’94 : The Autumnal Tumult on the Soaps

The daytime soaps may be eclipsed this autumn by a true-life drama: The O.J. Simpson double-murder trial, scheduled to begin Sept. 19. Taping continues as usual, though, with producers postponing any decisions about what episodes to air until they know more about possible preemptions. Here are the story lines planned for fall.

All My Children (ABC, noon): Dixie finally decides whether or not to donate her kidney, which could imperil her chances of having a baby with Tad. Janet finds herself dealing with her mother and Laurel, both close to discovering her true identity, as well as a relationship with Trevor. Maria shares her deepest secret with Edmund. Erica is torn by feelings for Jack and Dimitri. Gloria unsuccessfully tries to hide her pregnancy from Adam.

Another World (NBC, 1 p.m.): Vicky’s return does not elicit Ryan’s automatic forgiveness. Evan tries to win over Amanda while joining Carl in a dangerous game that scares Rachel. Who is trying to squash Ian and Josie’s new romance? A caper involves Cass, Frankie and Marshall’s rescue of Felicia. Jake and Paulina may once again be hampered on their way to the altar.

As the World Turns (CBS, 1 p.m.): A new man in town could change the destinies of Duncan, Shannon and Jessica. Rosanna travels to Montana with Mike to learn more about her mother, encountering unexpected feelings as well. Samantha and Craig begin a secret romance. An exciting turn of events bares Grimaldi secrets and unsettles Lily, Damian and Holden. The returning Connor must decide between Kirk and Cal.

The Bold and the Beautiful (CBS, 12:30 p.m.): Sheila will stop at nothing to get pregnant. Thorne and Macy devote their energies to their newfound singing career. Spectra Fashions’ Grand Diva collection for plus-sized women is a hit. Ridge and Brooke’s wedding may be thwarted by Taylor’s return. Dylan and Jessica hope to dispel the Forresters’ qualms about their love.

Days of Our Lives (NBC, noon): There will be a wedding in Salem. Vivian continues her desperate mission to steal Victor from Kate. Billie becomes more entrenched with Countess Wilhelmina Cosmetics. Jack is back, threatening Jennifer’s love for Peter. Lexie still has feelings for brother-in-law Jonah. Celeste helps Stefano weave his evil web. John’s past prevents him from true closeness with Kristen.

General Hospital (ABC, 2 p.m.): Luke learns more about his father’s death--and life. Monica must meet the challenge of cancer surgery and its aftermath, possibly affecting life with Alan. Kevin’s dark secret is revealed, while a pregnant Felicia questions her baby’s paternity. Ned faces problems when Lois discovers his true identity. The stakes are raised regarding Lucy and Damian’s bet. Miguel’s lost love returns.

Guiding Light (CBS, 2 p.m.): Alan’s plans to regain all he has lost, affecting Alexandra, Blake and Vanessa, may be derailed by his attraction to Tangie. Roger’s request to regain Spaulding Enterprises and his relationship with Holly both intensify. Alan-Michael searches for his father but finds an unexpected relationship. Vanessa’s summer romantic fantasy man Matt comes to town. Buzz and Nadine’s romance becomes more complex, while his true love Jenna finds secret-keeping difficult.

Loving (ABC, 11 a.m.): Jeremy’s past comes to the forefront. Ally and Casey’s marriage suffers from family pressures. Recent events in Trucker and Dinah Lee’s lives may tear them apart rather than bring them closer. Curtis’ revelation will come back to haunt him. Alex and Ava become part of a love triangle. Professional and personal issues force a face-off between Clay and Cooper.

One Life to Live (ABC, 1 p.m.): Tina and David must deal with their growing mutual attraction. Blair and Dorian start a business venture, while Dorian’s interest in Joey figures in her revenge against Viki. Criminal events at Llanview Hospital put Todd under suspicion. Jimmy’s presence serves to alienate Rachel from Hank. Andrew and Marty may not be able to resist temptation. Max attempts to overcome his compulsive gambling so as to win back Luna.

The Young and the Restless (CBS, 11 a.m.): The surprise appearance of an old love affects Jack’s deepening involvement with Mari Jo. Jill’s hoped-for amicable divorce turns into a bitter custody fight. Nina and Ryan’s joy at her pregnancy may be short-lived. Paul gives Cricket an engagement ring, but Danny’s return brings complications. Nick’s involvement with Sharon while pretending to romance Amy could cost him his freedom or his life. Drucilla’s pregnancy leads to the revelation of a secret. Victor and Hope’s marriage faces tests.
