We’re still not sure who wears the pants in the Capitol: State Sen. Charles Calderon, who sponsored the bill giving women the right to dress in pants at work, says he was motivated by personal experience.

Men “have been wearing pants for years and they’re comfortable,” the Whittier Democrat said. “Let me tell you, I’ve even worn a skirt on occasion--during Halloween or pranks. It’s the most uncomfortable thing I’ve ever worn.”

Thanks for sharing that with us, senator.

Ghost writings: It may be low on your list of urban fears, but author Laurie Jacobson says the Southland is full of ghosts. Some stops in her new book, “Hollywood Haunted”:

* At the Rexford Drive house of the late actor Clifton Webb, who vowed to remain “even in death,” one resident “felt herself being hugged by a warm but invisible presence in her bed. The toilet paper in the bathroom would often unroll by itself. . . .”

* After actor Lon Chaney’s death, “his ghost was regularly spotted sitting on a bus bench at Hollywood and Vine. . . .” (Hope it doesn’t mind the Metro Rail construction.)

* At the Comedy Store, an employee “heard a low buzz of voices, ‘Bssimm, bssimm, bssimm,’ ” from a locked empty room. One theory is that the voices were those of the victims of the mobsters who used to hang out there when it was Ciro’s nightclub.

* A worker dusting a mirror in the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel “saw the reflection of a blonde. She turned to speak to the woman, but there was no one standing behind her. Yet when she turned back to the mirror, the reflection was still there. This mirror hung in Suite 1200, often used by Marilyn Monroe. Two psychics have ‘read’ the mirror and felt great sadness.”

* An overnight guest in Room 928 of the Hollywood Roosevelt “felt a hand patting her shoulder while she lay in bed reading. She turned to say good night to her husband, but he was sound asleep.”

We’re sure that when she related the episode to her husband in the morning, he responded, “Bssimm, bssimm, bssimm.”

He’s lucky it wasn’t his highway to heaven: We mean the wrong-way commuter who was spotted Monday on the San Diego Freeway. On a bicycle.
