Share

Ventura police were searching Monday for a hit-and-run motorist who struck and killed a 44-year-old pedestrian in a crosswalk outside the Greyhound bus depot in Ventura.

Paul Edward Dunn of Ventura was struck about 9:06 p.m. Sunday at 291 E. Thompson Blvd. by a motorist who left the scene, Ventura police said. At least three people witnessed the accident.

Dunn, the second pedestrian killed in the city this year, died at about 5 a.m. Monday at Ventura County Medical Center, Cpl. John Turner said.

He said the vehicle, which he described only as a yellow sedan, struck Dunn while he was in a well-lit crosswalk at Palm Street and Thompson Boulevard.

Dunn was wearing light clothing, Turner said, and the car had been traveling westbound about 30 m.p.h. on Thompson.

Although Dunn had a blood-alcohol level of 0.26%--more than three times the legal limit for driving--that apparently did not play a significant role in the accident, Turner added.

“It looks like inattention, followed by panic,” Turner said of the motorist.

Anyone who may have information on the accident is asked to contact police at 339-4435.
