SOUTH-CENTRAL : $45,000 Offered to Help Solve Murder at Gas Station

Los Angeles and Shell Oil Corp. officials Tuesday announced a $45,000 reward for information about the murder of the assistant manager of a South-Central gas station.

Randolph Miguel, 34, was counting receipts when he was stabbed to death in the back office of a Shell station in the 8600 block of Western Avenue two weeks ago. The station, destroyed in the 1992 riots, was reopened 18 months ago.

Detective Marta Moran of the South Bureau homicide unit said there are no suspects in the early-morning murder.

The City Council approved a $25,000 reward for any tipster who helps authorities find and prosecute the killer. Earlier this month, Shell officials offered $20,000.

At a news conference announcing the reward money, Councilman Mark Ridley-Thomas said, “Let’s be realistic--people are fearful and we have to motivate people to come forward.”
