THE REGION : Water District Gets $500,000 Recycling Grant
The Upper San Gabriel Valley Municipal Water District has received a $500,000 federal grant for a water recycling program.
The Water Recycle 2000 grant from the U.S. Department of the Interior will be used to implement a water reclamation project.
By using recycled water, the district will be able to rely less on imported water. The valley’s water supply comes from three sources: natural rainfall and runoff, the Colorado River and the Sacramento Delta. But recent environmental policies have made imported water more expensive and less reliable.
The project’s first phase is scheduled to begin in fall, 1996.
