LOS ANGELES COUNTY : $1.2 Million Awarded for Parkland Projects

Share

Los Angeles County supervisors on Tuesday allocated about $1.2 million in voter-approved funds for parkland acquisition and improvement to projects in the San Fernando, Santa Clarita and Antelope valleys.

The money came from Proposition A, the 2-year-old property assessment measure that will generate $540 million countywide. Most of the money was earmarked under the measure, but the supervisors have discretion over how $37 million of it is spent.

More than 200 community organizations and cities competed for about $10 million of the discretionary funds this year, leaving about $27 million to be awarded during the next three years. The supervisors awarded about 12% of the funds to cities and groups in the Valley region after reviewing recommendations from panels that included community members. In most cases, the awards will be matched or augmented by non-county contributions.

* $200,000 for the restoration and enhancement of Bull Creek in the Sepulveda Basin Recreation Area.
