THOUSAND OAKS : Parking Spots Saved in Intersection Plan

Share

Trying to please commuters without hurting local businesses, Thousand Oaks council members have settled on a $140,000 plan for improving the intersection of Thousand Oaks Boulevard and Hampshire Road.

Most early proposals from the city’s traffic department had called for eliminating parking spaces in front of small businesses along Thousand Oaks Boulevard to widen the street. But the pleas of Regina Chiaramonte, who owns a tailoring shop that depends on curbside parking, prompted all five council members to demand alternatives.

The new plan preserves parking in front of Chiaramonte’s business and in front of a liquor store and jewelry shop on Hampshire Road. To allow customers easy access to the liquor and jewelry stores, U-turns on Hampshire Road will still be permitted.
