PRO FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : RAMS : Henley Bond Request Denied

Share

A federal judge denied a request Wednesday from cornerback Darryl Henley to use part of the cash deposit he has already posted on his travel bond toward the bond he must provide the court while he is in Southern California.

Henley had already cleared one hurdle of his bail situation when the Rams agreed to post a $2-million bond on his behalf so he could travel to road games. But Henley had to provide a $200,000 cash deposit as part of that amount.

Last week, U.S. District Court Judge Gary L. Taylor raised Henley’s local bail amount from $200,000 to $600,000, which applies to the time that Henley spends within the Central District of California. As part of Henley’s original $200,000, he had to provide the court with $20,000 in cash, or 10% of the total.

When Taylor raised the bail to $600,000, Henley was required to post $40,000 more in cash. But Taylor denied Henley’s request to apply $40,000 of the $200,000 travel bond to the new amount needed for local bail.

“The defense makes this request because Henley has already deposited almost all of his after-tax salary with the court in order to meet the conditions of the travel bond,” wrote Gerald L. Chaleff, one of Henley’s attorneys. “Henley’s available resources have therefore already been substantially consumed by the conditions of his two bail arrangements.”

Taylor denied the request but gave no reason.

Chaleff said he is convinced that Henley can raise the money in some other way. Henley has until Friday to come up with the cash, but Chaleff is expected to request a deadline extension.
