Sam’s Club to Vote: The National Labor Relations Board has set Oct. 7 as the date when about 150 workers at Sam’s Club in Fullerton will vote on whether they want to be represented by Teamsters Local 952.

If a majority of these warehouse and clerical workers cast ballots for the Teamsters, it will mark the first store owned by discount giant Wal-Mart to become unionized. The Arkansas-based retailer operates 430 Sam’s Club warehouses and some 2,300 Wal-Mart stores in the country, but not a single one is under a union contract.

Orange-based Teamsters Local 952 filed for a union election in late July after months of organizing. At that time, the union said it had signatures of support from the majority of the workers at the Fullerton store. But the election will tell whether that support has held steady or waned.
