COLLEGE FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : USC : Receiver Hervey to Miss Next Game

Share

USC’s pass offense will have to make do without starting wide receiver Ed Hervey in the Sept. 24 Baylor game. Coach John Robinson said the knee Hervey injured against Washington two games ago will keep him out of a second game.

Neither Hervey nor Keyshawn Johnson, the other starting wide receiver, played against Penn State last week. Johnson was also held out of Thursday’s practice because of a stubborn thigh injury that has caused knee swelling.

And quarterback Rob Johnson sat out another practice. He’s still nursing a sore lower back, picked up in the Washington game. He’s expected to participate in drills next week, however.

“I had 11 varsity sports seasons in high school and four years here in football, and these are the first practices I’ve ever missed with an injury,” Johnson said.

Quincy Harrison, a sophomore backup cornerback who returned an intercepted pass for a 68-yard touchdown at Penn State last weekend, has cracked the starting lineup. The Trojans were trailing Penn State, 35-0, early in the third quarter when Harrison, from Eldorado High in Las Vegas, intercepted a pass and returned it for a touchdown.
