KOREATOWN : Consortium Offers Free Home Repairs

Share

The Pacific Asian Consortium in Employment offers free home repairs to homeowners through a program funded by the city and county.

Services are provided for single-family homeowners who can prove ownership and residence in the home needing the repairs, and who qualify economically, said Ruben Manalo, a consortium representative.

Income limits are $27,000 a year for a household of one; $30,900 a year for a household of two; $34,800 a year for a household of three; and $38,600 for a household of four. The program is for homes in an area bounded by the Pacific Ocean on the west, the Los Angeles River on the east, Mulholland Drive on the north and Venice Boulevard on the south, Manalo said.

Repairs offered include exterior and interior painting, repair or replacement of windows and doors, plumbing repairs, minor carpentry and electrical work, installation of locks, smoke alarms and other security devices.

Materials, including paint, are provided free as part of the service, Manalo said.

The Koreatown-based nonprofit organization, which serves low-income property owners, employs almost 20 full-time handymen in the program, he said.
