For the first time anybody could remember, movie-makers came to the Seal Beach Naval Weapons Station this month to shoot a scene for a feature film.
Director Ron Howard spent several hours at the base filming a scene for “Apollo 13,” a Universal Pictures movie about the near-disastrous 1970 moon mission.
Lead actor Tom Hanks was also at the base with co-stars to film a farewell scene.
Station spokesman Joe Davidson said movie-makers had looked at the base for filming before but they changed their minds and went elsewhere.
Today
Jerome Bettis, Los Angeles Rams running back and last year’s NFL Rookie of the Year, will host a Monday night football party at 6 p.m. at Planet Hollywood in Santa Ana.
Those attending the event are encouraged to wear Rams clothing. Proceeds from the party will go to various Orange County charities.
Bettis will sign a Rams jersey that will go on display at the restaurant.
