A bookstore billed as “probably the largest Chinese bookstore on the West Coast” has opened in Monterey Park.

SUP Bookstore, owned by Sino United Publishing, will stock 45,000 titles in Chinese and English. The aim of the 6,000-square-foot store, at 111 N. Atlantic Blvd., is to promote Chinese culture and facilitate cultural exchange.

Offerings include subjects ranging from Chinese literature to children’s books, cookbooks and economic texts. Patrons will also be able to buy periodicals from China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. California-based Chinese newspapers are also available.

Additionally, the bookstore will stock language tapes and videos, Chinese and Western stationery, Chinese stamps, greeting cards and electronic dictionaries.

One corner of the store will be developed for cultural activities such as art exhibits. SUP Bookstore also plans to start a mail-order service.
