THOUSAND OAKS : Searchlights OKd for Arts Plaza Opening

Share

Searchlights will sweep the sky over Thousand Oaks on Oct. 22 to illuminate the grand opening celebration of the Civic Arts Plaza.

Council members unanimously approved the use of sweeping arc lights from 6 p.m. to midnight, during the black-tie gala featuring Broadway star Bernadette Peters and the Conejo Symphony Orchestra. The $775 cost of the lights will be covered mainly through ticket sales.

“This will serve not only as a celebration for the guests that evening, but as an invitation to the community to come down the next day for the open house at the Civic Arts Plaza,” grand opening planner Diana Malmquist said.

Council candidate Ekbal Quidwai spoke against the use of arc lights, arguing that the city should follow the rules it imposes on its residents.

“I’m sure businesses in this community have tried to have grand openings with these lights and were turned down,” Quidwai said.
