Mark McCumber, playing steady golf all day, won the Hardees Classic at Coal Valley, Ill., on Sunday when Kenny Perry drove into the rough on the final hole and finished with a bogey.

McCumber had a par on No. 18 and closed with a three-under-par 67 for a total of 15-under 265. It was his second victory of the year, having earlier won the Anheuser-Busch Classic.

“He got it in a place that was good for me and bad for Kenny,” McCumber said of Perry’s tee shot on the par-four 18th hole. The shot sailed left and disappeared over a slope, landing beside a tree.

“At that point, it was match play,” McCumber said. “I took advantage of one bad shot that Kenny hit. I drove to the right side, played an intelligent second shot to the middle of the green and then two-putted.”

Perry had tied for the lead with a birdie at the 16th. He and McCumber matched pars on the 17th before Perry faltered with his poor tee shot on 18.

Perry couldn’t get his second shot out of the rough, and his third shot went over the green. He finished with a bogey when his chip came up short.

“You hate to give one away,” Perry said. “You don’t get in position to win too often. To play the last hole so poorly hurts.”

McCumber’s second shot on 18 landed in the center of the green and he was able to two-putt for the par that gave him the ninth PGA Tour victory of his career.

Perry shot a 68 to finish at 266.

Two-time defending champion David Frost and Mike Donald finished two strokes behind McCumber at the Oakwood Country Club, which was spared heavy rain for the first time in four days.

Aoki shot a five-under 67 for a two-round total of 11-under 133. The first round was rained out Friday.

Tom Wargo had a one-shot lead going to No. 17, but he three-putted the par-three hole after hitting his tee shot within 12 feet of the hole. Wargo and Jimmy Powell tied for second at 134.

Powell shot a record 30 on the back nine, including a hole in one on the 13th.
