A local fund-raising group presented the school district with $550,000 in donations to help pay for classroom aides, instructional materials and a program to fight substance abuse.

The Peninsula Education Foundation solicited donations for the Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District from fall, 1993, to June, said Administrative Director Linda Mardorf.

The foundation placed an additional $90,000 in a permanent endowment fund to benefit the school district, Mardorf said.
