Flores to Ride Flying Sensation
David Flores, the Fairplex meeting’s leading rider, has been named to ride Flying Sensation in Saturday’s $100,000 Pomona Derby at Fairplex Park in Pomona.
Alex Solis was originally recruited to ride the son of Flying Paster after Solis committed to ride trainer Don Warren’s horses Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
But when Harry Hacek, Solis’ agent, said the jockey couldn’t ride the first two days, Warren switched jockeys.
Flying Sensation hasn’t won a race since the California Cup Juvenile almost a year ago, but he demonstrated a liking for the small track last year with a second-place finish to Individual Style in the Gate For Glory Stakes.
Notes
Katilac Ofthestars, last in a nine-horse field the first time around the track, rallied under Gary Baze to beat The Jody Grind by two lengths in the $50,000 Black Swan Stakes on Wednesday. Pascali, with Justin Vitek aboard, was third. . . . The Super Derby from Louisiana Downs, which includes trainer Dick Mandella’s Soul Of The Matter, will be simulcast at Fairplex Park on Saturday. . . . Magical Maiden, third in the 1992 Breeders’ Cup Distaff, drew the No. 1 post position in a five-horse field in today’s $100,000 Las Madrinas Handicap.
