Bonnie Sharp

Teacher, Tustin Unified School District

Sharp recently was appointed head of a task force created by the California American Assn. of University Women to promote education, self-development and equal opportunities for women and girls. Sharp is in her 30th year of teaching, 16 of them at Columbus Tustin Middle School, where she heads the English department. She is the student council adviser and coach of the academic pentathlon team. She founded the school’s Academic Olympics program. In 1992, Sharp was selected the district’s Teacher of the Year and was one of four Orange County Teachers of the Year.

Lyle Porter

Headmaster of St. Anne’s School in Laguna Niguel

Porter has been named headmaster of St. Anne’s School in Laguna Niguel. He is the former principal of Mater Dei Catholic High School in Santa Ana, and also was the founding principal of Mission College Preparatory School, a Catholic high school in San Luis Obispo. St Anne’s is a private, interdenominational Christian school with 340 students in preschool through eighth grade.

Terry Burgess

Vice president of instruction at Irvine Valley College

Burgess was recently named president of California Community College Chief Instructional Officers. It is one of seven state community college organizations that review policy matters affecting California’s 107 community colleges. The organization consults with the California Community College Board of Governors. Burgess has been vice president of instruction at Irvine Valley since 1986 and was acting president from September, 1993, to March, 1994.

Col. John V. (Jack) Foley

General manager, Moulton Niguel Water District

Foley was recently reappointed to a four-year term as a director of the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California.

At a recent meeting, the Municipal Water District of Orange County Board of Directors in Fountain Valley unanimously voted to reappoint Foley.

Foley is the current chairman of the MWD board. He is one of five Municipal Water District of Orange County representatives to MWD’s board.

Foley’s new term will begin Jan. 1, 1995. Foley, a former colonel in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and current general manager of the Moulton Niguel Water District, is considered a front-runner for MWD chairman.
