Moorpark Quick to Capitalize on Harbor’s Shoddy Play, 48-19

They won’t be making instructional films out of this one, but Moorpark College will take it all the same.

Aided immensely by L.A. Harbor’s ineptitude, Moorpark throttled the Seahawks, 48-19, Saturday in a Western State Conference game that had Raider Coach Jim Bittner shaking his head afterward.

“Probably the best thing to do with the tapes of this game is burn them,” Bittner said with a chuckle.

Harbor gained 321 yards to 277 for Moorpark, but the Seahawks grounded themselves with six turnovers, oafish special-teams play and weak pass protection for beleaguered quarterback Kenji Tatum.

Moorpark took control with three first-quarter touchdowns, including one on a 10-yard punt return to open the scoring by 6-foot, 290-pound defensive lineman James Jones.

A minute into the game, Harbor lined up in punt formation at its 11-yard line. But Lance Chor dropped the low snap four yards deep in the end zone before kicking the ball only 14 yards downfield and into the arms of Jones, who ran the ball back for a touchdown.

Raider tailback Gary Clemons added first-quarter touchdowns on a three-yard run and a 33-yard reception from starting quarterback Damian Delfino, and teammate Isaiah Mustafa hauled in another Delfino scoring pass, of 68 yards, to make the score 28-7 at the half.

In the second half, Raider backup quarterback Jeremie Watkins tossed a 12-yard touchdown pass to Michael Streeter, defensive lineman David Acosta returned an interception 22 yards for a score, and Reginald Wilkes completed the onslaught with a two-yard plunge.

Delfino was eight of 15 for 168 yards and two touchdowns, and Watkins completed all four of his passes for 38 yards and the touchdown to Mustafa, who finished with seven receptions for 128 yards.
