During the housing boom of the 1960s, county officials changed the names of many roads to make them consistent throughout the county.

Roads originally named after tiny towns and junctions--such as Wintersburg, Smeltzer and Delhi--were among those changed. The goal of the name changes was to make it easier for drivers to find their way around the county. Here are a few of the name changes:

Old name Current name Smeltzer Avenue Edinger Avenue Bay Boulevard Seal Beach Boulevard Stanton Avenue/ Beach Boulevard Huntington Beach Boulevard Wintersburg Avenue/Delhi Road Warner Avenue Verano Avenue Euclid Street Wright Street Brookhurst Street Cannery Street Magnolia Street
