GARDEN GROVE : New City Hall Building Turned Over to City

The Ralph B. Clark building has officially become property of the city, paving the way for conversion of the three-story structure to a new City Hall.

In a ceremony last week, officials with the Orange County Transportation Authority turned over the building to city officials after signing the final escrow papers.

The city bought the building at 11222 Acacia Parkway last December for $1.2 million. The city paid an additional $129,000 to LPA, an Irvine-based architectural company, to remodel the building, officials said.

Deputy City Manager Michael Fenderson said the city expects to move into the building by next April.

Fenderson said the current City Hall, at 11391 Acacia Parkway, a former elementary school built in 1924, needs extensive repairs. It would cost the city $1.7 million to repair the aging City Hall, about $500,000 more than the cost of buying the Ralph B. Clark building, he said.

Once vacated, the old City Hall will be torn down and part of the vacant space will be used for parking, Fenderson said.
