MONTEBELLO : Repair-Yard, Cultural Projects Approved

Share

The City Council has approved most of a $10-million plan to expand and renovate the city’s vehicle-repair yard.

The yard, at 311 S. Greenwood Ave., will be extended across the street to Taylor and Colegrove avenues and expanded from 5.2 to 7.4 acres. A new administrative building, bus-washing facility, two-story parking structure and fueling area will be built.

Construction for the expansion is scheduled to start by January and end by late 1996.

The current yard was built in 1968 and is too small to service the fleet of 55 city buses and some 200 city vehicles, officials said.

The final phase of the project will be submitted to the council next year and will include plans to clean up some soil contaminated by leaking fuel lines.

Officials have also approved a $50,000 three-dimensional cultural art display on the past, present and future of Montebello.
