Valley Cleanup Effort Planned for Saturday

Share

Tired of all the trash in your neighborhood?

Saturday is the day to do something about it.

Operation Sparkle, an annual event sponsored by the Los Angeles Police Department and the city of Los Angeles, is an attempt to encourage businesses and community leaders to participate in cleaning up the San Fernando Valley.

The volunteer effort--which will paint out graffiti, sweep streets, clear parks and pick up trash--begins at 7:30 a.m. at various locations throughout the Valley. The event, which began in 1989, is now being staged citywide after the program’s success in the Valley.

Last year’s effort collected more than 250 tons of trash and removed graffiti from more than 1,500 locations. The effort will run to about 1 p.m. Trash bags, shovels and trucks will be provided. To find out where the closest meeting location is in your area, contact: West Valley Police Station, Sgt.
