BRIEFLY : Earthquake: Clinic to Get $1 Million for Rebuilding

Share

A Santa Monica public mental health clinic is expected to receive $1 million from the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors to rehabilitate and upgrade a building damaged in the January Northridge earthquake.

Reconstruction of the Santa Monica West Mental Health Center, a County Department of Mental Health agency housed in a building built in 1928, will cost an estimated $9.2 million, half of which is expected to come from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

The $1 million will come from money allocated in the county budget for 3rd Supervisory District projects; the county government will fund the remainder of the construction costs through long-term financing.

The project includes doubling the size of the clinic’s office space and building an 80-car garage. Construction is scheduled to begin in November.
