Japanese Sales of Imports Expected to Set Record: The Japan Automobile Importers Assn. said sales rose 52.3% from a year earlier to 29,920 in September. The figure marks the 11th straight month of gains and a record high for September, surpassing the previous record of 19,640 set in September, 1993, the organization said. Industry analysts say Japanese sales of imported cars this year are expected to exceed the previous record of 221,706 cars, set in 1990.
