LOS ANGELES : Bank Guards Shoot 2 Men in Attempted Holdup

Share

Two gunmen who tried to run inside a Bank of America as employees reported for work Friday were shot by security guards hired after a similar takeover robbery in late June.

“The officers were waiting for the bank employees to come” about 7:30 a.m., said Lt. Ken Lady of the Los Angeles Police Department’s 77th Street station.

“As the suspects approached (the two armed security guards) one pulled up a sweat shirt, pulled out his 9-millimeter pistol and aimed it at the officers and fired a round,” Lady said.

The guards at the branch at 5700 S. Vermont Ave. fired back, wounding both suspects, who were caught by Los Angeles police officers on patrol in the area, Lady said.

On June 29, three bandits ran in with the employees at the bank, then made their getaway. After that incident, the armed security officers from American Protective Services were hired, according to a report on radio station KFWB.
