Master Chorale Sets 31st Season
Seven subscription concerts in the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion of the Music Center, plus four special events in various locales, mark the 31st season of the Los Angeles Master Chorale.
The season begins with a Brahms program Oct. 30 in the Pavilion, when music director Paul Salamunovich conducts the “Ein deutsches Requiem,” the Alto Rhapsody and “Ave Maria,” with soloists Claudine Carlson and David Arnold. “Canciones para Los Angeles,” Nov. 19, features works by Schifrin, Chavez, Berger and others. “Home for the Holidays” is the chorale’s Christmas-season offering, Dec. 18.
The Chorale’s pops program, Feb. 18, is titled “From Stage to Screen” and will be followed, March 5, by a guest appearance by the touring Seoul Ladies’ Singers from Korea, conducted by Hak Won Yoon. Guest conductor Jon Washburn leads the Master Chorale in Bach’s “St. John” Passion, April 2. Singing the role of the Evangelist will be Banjamin Butterfield.
The season closes, May 14, when Salamunovich conducts works by Libby Larsen and Carl Nielsen, and Walton’s “Belshazzar’s Feast.”
A children’s holiday celebration, Dec. 17, two different “Messiah” sing-alongs, Dec. 9 and 11, and a major fund-raiser, called “Romance a Versailles,” complete the 1994-95 Chorale schedule.
