LAGUNA BEACH : Canyon Area Will Reopen for Hikes
A section of Laguna Canyon that has been off-limits since the fire season started in June will reopen today for hikes and nature walks.
Nature lovers can take self-guided hikes at the Jim Dilley Preserve, formerly known as Sycamore Hills, including one 2 1/2-mile trail that loops around the county’s largest natural lake. The area, which will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., is along the east side of Laguna Canyon Road, three-quarters of a mile north of El Toro Road.
Hikers are urged to wear sunscreen and bring water or snacks. There are no facilities in the wilderness area, and bicycles and dogs are not allowed.
People who would like to visit nearby Laurel or Emerald canyons, which did burn in the fire and are sprouting, can make reservations for park ranger tours at (714) 854-7108.
