Alexi Lalas on Sunday became the first American player to score in the Italian League when he helped Padova upset defending European and Italian League champion AC Milan, 2-0.

Lalas, 24, scored in the 23rd minute, side-footing the ball into the net after teammate Filippo Maniero’s shot got away from Milan goalkeeper Sebastiano Rossi.

Lalas jumped advertising boards surrounding the field and ran toward the stands in celebration, earning himself a yellow card in the process.
