Take a Hike for Child Safety

The Kiwanis Club of Newport Beach-Costa Mesa and the Irvine YMCA will host their 10th annual 5K walk/run on Sunday. Proceeds from the event will benefit child safety causes.

The course runs along Backbay Drive in Newport Beach, from the Newport Dunes aquatic resort to the Hyatt Newporter. Registration begins at 6 a.m. at Newport Dunes.

Monster Mash for Tiny Haunts

Children age 4 to 10 are invited to take part in a city-organized Halloween Monster Mash Party the night before Halloween, Oct. 30, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. The party will take place at University Community Park, 1 Beech Tree Lane.

The party will feature games and contests. The cost is $12 per person. For more information, call the city’s Community Services Department at 724-6610.

Chance to Win a Title, Crown

Contestants are being sought for the Miss North Orange County USA and Miss North Orange County Teen USA pageants, to be held Nov. 20.

Contestants must live, work or attend school in North Orange County.

The application deadline is Nov. 2. The pageant will be at the Brea Olinda High School Performing Arts Center, 789 Wildcat Way, Brea.

Bash, Chuckles to Aid Charity

The Exchange Club Child Abuse Center of Orange County hopes to scare up some funds during two Halloween week events scheduled Saturday and Sunday.

The first event, sponsored by the Orange County Young Republicans, is a costume ball called “The Monster Bash.” It will take place at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Red Lion Inn/Orange County Airport, 3050 Bristol St., Costa Mesa. The bash will include music, dancing, hors d’ouevres, a costume contest, card and palm reading, and a prize drawing. Admission is $30 per person. Sunday’s event, co-sponsored by the Child Or Parent Emergency Services group, is an evening at The Improv comedy club, 4255 Campus Drive, Irvine. Admission is $35 per person.
