HEALTH : USC Mobile Dental Clinic to Visit Schools

Share

USC’s Mobile Dental Clinic will set up shop outside the Pasadena Unified School District Building beginning Friday to examine and provide free treatment for 120 district students with dental problems but no medical insurance.

The clinic is being sponsored by the district’s Young and Healthy program, which provides free medical, dental and psychological services to students whose families cannot afford health care.

Young and Healthy has 28 affiliated dentists who provide similar services on a volunteer basis, but organizers said it would take them years to address all the problems that the mobile clinic’s 100 dentists will handle Friday and the following week.

In a total of 700 appointments with the 120 students, the dentists will diagnose and treat a wide range of needs, from cavities and crowns to extractions and root canals. Many of the students have never been to a dentist before, organizers said.

Free flu shots will be available from Tuesday through Dec. 9 to Los Angeles County residents who are 60 years old or over.

At special county flu clinics, the shots will also be provided without charge to people with chronic diseases, which increase the risk of flu complications.

County clinics will not provide flu shots for healthy adults under 60 years old. Information: (818) 350-6833.
