Seal Beach’s historic wood pier has been through a lot lately.
A 1992 fire on the pier’s midsection caused $250,000 in damage. Four months ago, a second fire caused $350,000 in damage, closing it temporarily.
But Seal Beach officials have embarked on reconstruction.
Workers are repairing damage caused by the 1992 fire. The city has raised $25,000 to pay the $100,000 not covered by insurance.
Work began about two months ago to replace the wood pilings and supports burned in the 1994 fire. The city has received $8,000 in donations toward its $130,000 deductible cost.
