LAGUNA NIGUEL : 8.4 Acres Donated for New City Park

Share

The City Council this week agreed to accept a developer’s 8.4-acre donation for use as the city’s latest public park, Clipper Cove Park.

The park will have 3.5 acres for two playgrounds, picnic tables, a garden area, fitness stations and two turf areas not intended for use in organized sports. The park will be located between Thackeray Drive, Clipper Way and Kensington Drive and will be surrounded by almost five acres of landscaped slopes.

The agreement caps years of negotiations over the proposed park site. The delay stemmed partly from an argument between the developer, Shapell Industries and the city over who would maintain the slopes around the park.

Under the agreement, the city will maintain 1.4 acres of slopes created when the land is graded and the local homeowners association will maintain the rest.
