Introducing the Chutzpah Awards

Share

I suggest that The Times institute a Chutzpah Award to be given on a regular basis to that public figure who makes the most egregiously outrageous and illogical comment on a matter of public interest during the period under review. As initial recipients of this award I nominate these individuals:

* Dist. Atty. Michael R. Capizzi: After his office bungled the case of the supposed Laguna Canyon arsonist, he had the gall to attempt to shift the blame onto the media!

* The Rev. Lou Sheldon: He justified his support for Proposition 187 on the grounds that illegal immigrants are not mentioned in the Bible. What arrant nonsense! Did Jesus check the nationality of those upon whom He worked his miracles? Did the good Samaritan ask for a green card before he helped the wounded traveler?

From his past comments we know of Sheldon’s virulent antipathy toward homosexuals and abortionists, and now he has added illegals to his verboten list.
