UNIVERSAL CITY : Man Dies, 2 Injured in Head-On Crash
A man was killed and two other people were injured when a car traveling the wrong way on the Hollywood Freeway collided head-on with another vehicle, the California Highway Patrol said.
The accident occurred about 8 p.m. Tuesday on the northbound side of the freeway after Shawna Leavell, 29, of Encino, entered the freeway via an off-ramp, said CHP Officer Tito Gomez.
Authorities say they do not know how long she was driving the wrong way.
Near Universal City, Leavell’s car struck a car traveling northbound, driven by Yuri Avetisyan, 46, of North Hollywood, Gomez said.
Avetisyan was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.
On Wednesday, Leavell and a passenger in Avetisyan’s car were in serious condition at Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills, authorities said.
Leavell has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, Gomez said.
