Lakers Lose Last Exhibition to Jazz, 99-88

OGDEN, Utah — Karl Malone scored 19 points and Felton Spencer and John Stockton had 13 in Utah’s 99-88 exhibition victory over the Lakers on Thursday night.
Cedric Ceballos led the Lakers (5-3) with 26 points, 12 rebounds and four steals in their final exhibition. Rookie Eddie Jones added 19 points and Nick Van Exel had 12.
The Jazz (6-1) also got 11 points from Tom Chambers and 10 from John Crotty.
Utah led, 45-38, at halftime and increased its lead to 60-44 with 6:23 left in the third quarter.
The Lakers went on an 18-3 run, with Ceballos scoring eight of the points, and cut the lead to 63-62 with 3:05 left in the third. Jones had a three-pointer and two foul shots at the end of the run.
The Jazz then outscored the Lakers, 34-17, taking its biggest lead at 97-79 with 3:44 to play after Walter Bond’s dunk off a pass from Bryon Russell.
